Mid Glam V Derbyshire - Division 3c - 2009 / 2010

The Mid Glamorgan County Badminton team were victorious in their first fixture of Division 3 in the English Inter County Championship on the weekend, beating Derbyshire 11 games to 4 with an awesome display of raquet skills in what was undoubtedly our strongest encounter to date.

Double Olympian Ricahrd Vaughan no doubt helped the cause playing doubles and mixed events, Chairman Huw Wilson commented "It is great to see Richard support his county, having him play with one of our younger team members will enhance their game and help them reach the next level of play "

Richard Vaughan commented "Great to see the county team back to where it was when I was junior player, its great for the younger players and for the general development of the sport."

Mid Glamorgan have been very fortunate this season to be able to assign two Super coaches to the team, Richard Vaughan and Martyn Lewis are both supporting the team, Martyn will also be playing this season, he was playing in Paris so was unable to confirm his attendance for the weekend.

Martyn, who took the first training session of the season last week commented that there was a lot of positives in the squad, there was of course room for improvement, but this was something that could now be addressed, providing the county could secure a venue for training sessions on a regular basis.

Sunday 25th October sees West Glam v Mid Glam in what promises to be a major badminton event that has to be good for badminton in South Wales, whilst we have the utmost respect and thoroughly enjoy the company of our welsh brethren we will be seeking to walk away with the match and gain a bonus point if possible by winning the match at least 10 games to 5.

We would like to thank all who helped on the day, including Team Manager Gary Rees and those who catered the event, Julie Smith and Huw Wilson, and for all those who turned up to support the event. We would also like to thank Derbyshire who were a very pleasant team, we look forward to the return in 2010.
